What is Chill Out all about?
Chill Out was founded in 2006, competing in the Pacific Northwest District of the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).
Chill Out is based at Mountlake Terrace High School in Mountlake Terrace, WA as part of Edmonds School District with membership open to all high school students of Edmonds School District.

With no experience necessary, students learn on the fly with support from mentors who are industry professionals in engineering, programming, product management, finance, leadership, electronics, manufacturing, graphic design and advance respect and appreciation for STEM in the local community. Each season, the team is challenged to build an industrial-size robot for an objective based game under strict rules and limited time and resources.

Our primary build and competition season runs from January to April, with the game rules and objectives not even announced until January. A high pressure design and build period is quickly followed by our first competition 7 weeks later in early March. During this time, students' commitment and dedication is tested as they balance robot activities 5 days a week, while staying current on school work and other family activities.

Our off-season periods from May to December we provide continued engagement for the students with a significant focus on skills development and community outreach throughout South Snohomish County. For example, this past summer we provided a design workshop which included a mock game, strategy analysis, design brainstorming and CAD drawings. In addition, over the past year we engaged well over 1,000 kids through outreach events with elementary schools in the Edmonds School District, parades, multiple community presentations, and co-hosted a Summer STEM Camp as part of the MTHS STEM Program in which nearly 100 kids learned about the varied fields of STEM.
